RW's story...
I'm not trying to 'promote' RW. Serious. I often remind myself that there are many RW around me, just that they maybe didn't have the chance to express. But still, you'll be amazed by how GOD, not RW himself but GOD, use him to start a church.
Church is a hospital for sinners, not a hotel for saints.
Since young, RW has been greatly influenced by his parents. He watched his father use runned down cinema's chairs to fill their house as a gathering place for his church. He watch his father dies and keep saying "Reach one more for Jesus" on his death bed. His mum cooks really well and although they are very poor, and their bills were miriciously paid each time, they often call churchies over for meals. RW says he will wakeup every morning guessing who will be at the breakfast table... Each time his dad or other pastors preaches, he will write 'YBH' at the margin of his Bible. 'Yes, But How?' and all these answers to the questions greatly helped him lead his church eventually.
At the age of 25, he take his wife along with him, to a total strange environment to plant a new church, Southern California, Orange County. They rented a small house and the owner who drove them to their new house became their first member of Saddleback Church! Then they started to multiply. But RW was actually afraid of the growth of church and thinks that he can't cope it. He went in a year of depression. But his 26th year of his life in depression prepared him for his next 35yrs of being a pastor! He has drawn closer to God then and moved his faith up another level.
Now, Saddlback church has 100,000 members and over 300 ministries. When you understand a number represents a soul, you'll understand and appreciate the number of peopel Saddleback brought to God. Once again I want to stress: It's not about RW. He's just someone who's willing to faithfully be a steward to God's affluence and influence. Anyone who is willing to faithfully build His kingdom has God's trust to give more!
The question is: Are we a dependable steward? Can He entrust us with His work?
